About the Journal

Pittsburgh Law Review Online (PLRO) serves as a supplement to the Pittsburgh Law Review print edition. PLRO provides a platform for publishing shorter scholarly works that further the dialogue around the print edition (responses), provide timely commentary on current events in the law (essays), and address regional issues (commentaries). Submissions to the Pittsburgh Law Review Online should comply with the standards of the print edition, including the use of footnotes.

  • Responses- Short pieces (2,000 - 4,000 words) responding to articles in the current or recent editions of the Pittsburgh Law Review print edition. In addition, PLRO encourages replies from the print edition authors (1,500 - 3,000 words).
  • Essays- Shorter than a typical law review article (12 double-spaced page maximum), PLRO seeks substantive and topical pieces that will be published on an expedited schedule.
  • Commentaries- PLRO accepts brief commentaries on cases and policies that impact the Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh region. Commentaries are typically between 5-8 double-spaced pages and serve as a practical tool or guide for practitioners.
